Airport Gardens Railroad

Welcome to the Airport Gardens Railroad, one of Reno’s hidden railroad treasures and a unique destination for train enthusiasts of all ages. Located on the third floor of Airport Gardens at 1325 Airmotive Way, directly across from Reno-Tahoe International Airport, this remarkable railroad is housed within the international headquarters of the Alpine & Western Pacific Railroad Executive Offices and the home of MacLean Financial Group.
Stretching more than 1,000 feet, the Airport Gardens Railroad is one of the largest suspended G-scale railroads in the region. Elevated high above the hallways and offices, the railroad winds throughout the third floor, passing through offices, conference areas, and open spaces before disappearing around corners and reappearing in unexpected places. Visitors often find themselves looking up as trains quietly make their way overhead.
The railroad normally operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The trains have become such a familiar part of Airport Gardens that whenever they are not running, one of the most common questions we hear is, “Why isn’t the train running today?” For many tenants and visitors, the railroad has become a favorite part of the building and something they look forward to seeing.

But the trains overhead are only the beginning. Outside the offices of MacLean Financial Group is the impressive Wall of Trains, a museum- style display featuring an extensive collection of rare and unique railroad models, with an emphasis on G-scale locomotives, rolling stock, and railroad memorabilia from around the world. The collection represents decades of railroad history, craftsmanship, and collecting.

Also on display are several authentic 7½-inch gauge, 1½-inch scale railroad cars from the historic Tunnel, Cut & Trestle Railroad, offering visitors a glimpse into the world of live-steam railroading.
One of the building’s most treasured artifacts is located inside the MacLean Financial Group conference room—the beautifully preserved No. 4535 steam locomotive. Built in the late 1950s by Gordon MacLean and Walt Disney for the famous Tunnel, Cut & Trestle Railroad, this historic locomotive represents a remarkable piece of American backyard railroad history and reflects the friendship and shared passion these two railroad pioneers had for miniature railroading.

Airport Gardens is more than an office building—it’s a destination where business, history, engineering, and the joy of railroading come together. Whether you’re a lifelong railfan, a visitor passing through Reno, or simply curious about one of Northern Nevada’s most unusual attractions, you’ll find something to enjoy.
Visitors are welcome during normal business hours. Be sure to stop by the third floor to experience the suspended Airport Gardens Railroad, explore the Wall of Trains, and see the historic No. 4535 steam locomotive. You never know what train might be passing overhead next.
